Goodyear introduces eight AA tyre sizes

Goodyear is introducing eight tyre sizes boasting AA label grades in its EfficientGrip Performance line. This means that Goodyear will offer one of the largest ranges of tyre sizes sporting the AA European tyre label grades on the market today. The eight new AA sizes complement an already extensive BA rated offering from Goodyear – 53 EfficientGrip Performance sizes sport a BA rating.

The AA label delivers the highest grade set out by the European tyre label regulation and signifies a tyre that delivers an “A” in both fuel efficiency and wet grip. The “A” label in fuel efficiency means that the tyre’s rolling resistance has been reduced. The launch of the AA tyres, which roll out in early 2015, expands Goodyear’s position among the leaders in tyre labelling and its ongoing commitment to innovation.

“We committed to labelling in 2012 and continue to see the value of high label-rated tyres to our customers and the community at large”, said Lie Junius, Director of Public Affairs at Goodyear. “Today we build on that commitment, delivering tyres that achieve top tyre label ratings. And with it, a delivered commitment from Goodyear to help vehicles improve fuel consumption thanks to low rolling resistance, and improve safety thanks to improved wet grip. At the same time we continue to ask the European Union for more enforcement, as we feel that today’s label grades are an excellent approach to better informing consumers of tyres’ benefits. However, the label only takes into account three criteria, while our own product development team looks at over 50 to ensure we can deliver safe, solid and high-quality products to market.”

Goodyear was the first to introduce concept AA tyres in May 2012—on the first day of voluntary implementation of the labelling rules. Since the introduction of those concept tyres, Goodyear has continued work on the technology to further improve construction tuning, improved tread compound and an optimised production process.

“It is exciting for us to introduce these eight new AA tyre sizes to the market. We are committed to providing innovation and excellence in tyres, and thanks to our EfficientGrip Performance range, we can continue to build on this commitment,” said Steve Lynch, Marketing Manager of Goodyear Dunlop Ireland.

The eight EfficientGrip Performance tyres with AA ratings are sizes: 205/55RI6 94W XL, 205/55RI7 95V XL, 215/55RI6 97H XL, 215/55RI6 97W XL, 215/55RI7 98W XL, 225/50RI7 98V XL, 225/55RI7 101W XL and 225/60R16 102W XL.
