Pirelli has been homologated for the BMW X5 M and X6 M no matter what the season with the Scorpion Winter and the P Zero.
In summer Pirelli has 100% Original Equipment on the 20-inch fitment – 285/40R20 104Y P Zero on the front and 325/35R20 108Y P Zero on the rear, while for the winter season the Pirelli Scorpion Winter tyre has been homologated in size 285/40R20 108V XL. These three tyres carry the marking so that dealers and consumers alike know that the tyre is tailor made for BMW.
It is very important to change tyres depending on the season as both have different characteristics that affect the way they perform in different temperatures. Winter tyres should be fitted when temperatures go below seven degrees centigrade as performance is dramatically affected.
In winter conditions, summer tyres have a braking distance that is approximately 20% longer than winter tyres. As well as shorter braking distances, there is less wear, and better handling and stability with winter tyres in winter conditions.
Looking at overall performance, summer tyres are only 50% as effective as winter tyres in winter. However, winter tyres are 80% as effective as summer tyres in summer.
Homologated for the BMW X5 M and X6 M, the new Scorpion Winter is Pirelli’s latest winter product for modern Sports Utility Vehicles, a sector of the automotive market that has enjoyed consistent growth.
It’s a tyre that represents a technological breakthrough in terms of overall performance and has been acclaimed as the best in its class on snow, certified with the prestigious TUV mark, combining excellent braking and handling in all conditions with lower noise and rolling resistance.
A new tread compound and snow boosters provide enhanced grip on snow and in the wet, while progressive and responsive handling in the dry is guaranteed by a new rounder profile.
Not only this, the Italian firm is also homologated in summer and winter fitments for the BMW X1, X3, X4, X5 and X6. This includes a variety of RunFlat fitments for the entire range.
For the BMW X5 and X6 these include 18, 19, 20 and 21-inch fitments for summer, 18, 19 and 20-inch for winter and 18 and 19-inch for all season.
For the BMW X3 and X4 these include 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21-inch fitments for summer, 17, 18 and 19-inch for winter and 18-inch for all season, while the BMW X1 is available in 17, 18 and 19-inch fitments for summer and 17 and 18-inch fitments for winter.
