Dunlop launches latest winter tyre

Following the successes of the award winning Winter Sport 4D, Dunlop is launching the Winter Sport 5. Excellent grip and performance to combat a variety of winter surfaces, including wet, icy and snow-covered roads are the main benefits the tyre offers. The Winter Sport 5 is available this month when the full range of sizes will be available.

The Winter Sport 5 is the fifth tyre in an award-winning Dunlop winter sport range and builds on the success of its predecessors, particularly the dynamic Winter Sport 4D. The tyre was designed to help consumers safely tackle all kinds of winter roads and conditions, including black ice, slush, icy patches, melting snow and puddles.

To deliver this, more than 400 R&D specialists on three different continents spent 24 months researching, developing and testing to create the new Dunlop Winter Sport range. Innovations include an increased number of tyre blocks1, which offer enhanced performance on snow-covered roads and angled centre sipes for superb lateral grip on slippery surfaces. Additionally, amplified depths of grooves defend against aquaplaning, and optimised construction and weight distribution improve fuel efficiency2.

Compared to its predecessor, the tyre delivers a 5% increase in wet braking, a 16% increase on ice braking, a 15% increase in rolling resistance and a 4% increase in snow acceleration3.
“With heavy rain and other extreme weather becoming more common in Europe, excellent grip is essential for driving in winter,” said Hans Vrijsen, Goodyear Dunlop Marketing Director Consumer EMEA. “We are pleased to offer a tyre that grips the road in winter weather and offers the peak performance that our consumers have come to expect from our tyres. Regardless of the winter conditions, the Winter Sport 5 provides our ambitious and active consumer with a tyre that suits a fast-paced lifestyle.”

The tyre is available in 43 sizes, with widths of 195 to 255, aspect ratios of 40 to 65 and rim diameters of 15” to 19”. They are designed to meet all kinds of winter tyre requirements and marked with the three-peak mountain and snowflake symbol.
