Tesla starts selling cars in Ireland

Electric car maker Tesla has started selling its vehicles in Ireland for the first time.

The company’s Model S and Model X cars can now be ordered via the Tesla website, with delivery promised in “early 2017”.

The cars promise of 542km or 613km depending on the model and also include a number of features such as an Autopilot function.

An entry level Model S costs more than €81,000, with the price more than doubling for the top-of-the-range version.

Tesla cars first went on sale in the US in 2012, but they have not been officially available in Ireland until now.

A number of the company’s vehicles have been imported by individual customers over the past four years, however.

Last month The Irish Times reported that Tesla was planning to open its first Irish showroom in 2017, with the firm also slated to install its charge points in a number of urban areas.

Next year will also see the arrival of Tesla’s Model 3, which will be priced at $35,000 in the United States.
