The brand new Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyre is the ideal tyre for drivers of powerful saloons and sports cars – with the perfect balance between pleasure and performance.
Michelin Pilot Sport 4 is an excellent example of Michelin Total Performance – the manufacturer’s no compromise ethos that leads to continual improvement across every performance criteria.
It also highlights Michelin’s track to street philosophy, using motorsport as a laboratory and transferring competition innovations to road cars for the benefit of drivers across the world.
The new ultra-responsive tread on the Michelin Pilot Pilot Sport 4, for example, comes from Michelin’s involvement in Formula E – the world’s first electric single-seater series. The tread constantly adapts to the road, thanks to mastery of the dynamic interactions between the architecture, tread pattern and materials, resulting in optimal management of the contact patch.
New Dynamic Response technology consists of a belt with hybrid aramid and nylon reinforcement that ensures optimal directional control. The high density, tension-resistant and lightweight fibre controls centrifugal force at high speeds, meaning the contact patch remains consistent.
Meanwhile a new very homogeneous compound mix features functional elastomers to improve the distribution of fine silica in the tyre, enhancing wet braking, and water evacuation is maximised with deep, wide longitudinal grooves. The new mixture also improves the tyre’s longevity and fuel efficiency.
The Michelin Pilot Sport 4 is an excellent addition to the manufacturer’s high-performance range. This includes the Michelin Pilot Super Sport for very high performance sports cars, and the track-focused but road-legal Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 – which delivers extreme performance to some of the most powerful cars in the world.
The new Michelin Pilot Sport 4 is available in many 17- to 18-inch sizes, with more sizes – including 19-inch – becoming available throughout 2016 and 2017.
