Land Rover Chooses Pirelli P Zero

Land Rover has chosen the Pirelli P Zero tyre with Pirelli Noise Cancelling System (PNCS) as the 22-inch Summer fitment for the new Range Rover Sport.

The Range Rover Sport is not only the first of Land Rover's products to feature PNCS as original equipment, but also the first SUV that has been fully homologated with the Pirelli system.

PNCS reduces the noise that each tyre produces as it runs along the road. This noise, caused by the vibration produced by air that is compressed when the tyre is pressed against the road, is transmitted from the tyre to the wheel hub before eventually reaching the cabin via the steering and suspension.

Pirelli's innovative system makes use of a polyurethane sponge on the inside of the tyre that is designed to absorb these vibrations and therefore reduce the amount of noise passed through to the cabin.

The PNCS reduces noise by between two to three decibels, with a consequent improvement in driving comfort that doesn't have any other effects on the tyre's characteristics.

The PNCS is available as original equipment on the Range Rover Sport, running on the 275/40R22 108Y XL P Zero(LR)ncs. All tyres using this system have the letters 'PNCS' displayed on the sidewalls to denote its use. In addition, this tyre has the Land Rover marking so that dealers and consumers alike know that the tyre is tailor made for Land Rover.

Pirelli UK Managing Director Dominic Sandivasci said: "We have a good relationship with Land Rover and it's great to be homologated on another of their prestigious vehicles. Our original equipment and R&D teams work very hard to develop products that meet all manufacturer's needs and we're delighted that Land Rover has decided to use the Pirelli Noise Cancelling System on the Range Rover Sport."

The Range Rover Sport has been named WhatCar? Car of the Year 2015 Best large SUV. Will Nightingale, WhatCar? Road test editor, commented: "Still the best big SUV on sale. It's brilliant to drive and, in HSE trim, comes with all the equipment you could wish for."
