Road users have been urged to exercise caution, with wintry conditions persisting around much of the country.
The northwest is particularly badly affected; with a Status Orange snow and ice warningin place for counties Cavan and Monaghan.
Met Éireann has also issued a Status Yellow warning for Connacht, Dublin, Kildare, Laois, Longford, Louth, Wicklow, Offaly, Westmeath, Meath, Donegal, Clare, Kerry and Tipperary.
There was heavy snowfall around Cavan and Monaghan this morning, with some roads impassable.
The Monaghan to Cootehill Road was particularly dangerous.
Donegal County Council has said that ploughing is ongoing on main roads in the county following snowfalls, but is advising drivers that untreated roads will be in poor condition and to take care.
The council is advising that the back of Errigal road (R251) should be avoided and the N56 used instead.
In Northern Ireland, a number of schools have been closed due to the snowy weather conditions.
So far, over 20 schools in counties Antrim, Down, Armagh and Tyrone have been affected.
Snow is still falling in some areas.
Most main routes are open, but many minor roads are passable only with with extreme care.
